This bridge is a highly unusual structure that may be unique in California today. It is a pin-connected Pennsylvania through truss, something that is itself rare, but this example has vertical end posts making very unusual indeed and also giving it a distinctive appearance. Another unusual detail is that the bottom chord is only connected to the truss at every other panel point.
This bridge was not always unique however. Historical articles refer to multi-span bridges of similar design elsewhere in California, which no longer exist today. This bridge span at Blackford Road, which appears to have been moved to this location likely in ca. 1967, may have come from one of the bridges mentioned in the historical articles.
The truss of the bridge retains good historic integrity with no major alterations noted.
