Including this bridge, CA-4 HistoricBridges.org documented three historic through truss swing bridges from this point to the city of Stockton. This makes CA-4 a unique drive where three historic swing bridges are on a major highway and can be crossed without turning onto a different road. This bridge is traditionally composed and it retains good historic integrity. The bridge rests on caissons that feature a riveted steel casing. Tibbitts-Pacific Company of San Francisco, California was the on-site contractor for the bridge, with the builder of the truss being the American Bridge Company. The design was undertaken by F. E. Quail, San Joaquin County Surveyor. Along with the CA-4 Middle River Bridge this is one of the two oldest unaltered highway swing bridges in California.
