View Historic Bridge Inventory Sheet For This Bridge

This bridge is a traditional pin-connected Pratt truss bridge. The Historic Bridge Inventory form is confusing because it claims an 1885 construction date and claims the bridge was designed by famous engineer Charles H. Latrobe of Baltimore. However, the design of this bridge with its a-frame portal bracing and traditional member design looks like an early 20th century pin-connected truss bridge. On top of that the older photos within the Historic Bridge Inventory form show the bridge with the original railing design on them... these railings were a unique design of riveted bars arranged to form squares (not a traditional lattice railing) and that unique design was only ever used by the York Bridge Company. So there are two possibilities. One, the 1885 bridge had its railings replaced by the York Bridge Company. Or, more likely, this is a bridge built in 1902 by the York Bridge Company. 1902 is the date given in the National Bridge Inventory.
