Bridge Documentation

This bridge no longer exists!

Bridge Status: Demolished without replacement!

This abandoned bridge carried an abandoned alignment of Glass Avenue that was located just east of the existing Glass Avenue alignment. The bridge to crosses what appears to be an old channel of 15 Mile Creek. The channel does not appear to go anywhere north of the bridge today. The active channel of the creek is just west of this bridge, which is where the current Glass Avenue alignment crosses the creek. The abandoned road this bridge served was paved and the old road can still be seen going up the hill immediately east of this truss bridge. This bridge retains good historic integrity except that its original pipe railings are missing in some areas. The bridge is a good representative example of its type. In its current location it is a reminder of the former Glass Avenue alignment. However it could also be useful as a bridge that would be restored and relocated to a new site to serve as a bridge for a trail or other facility for non-motorized vehicles. Metal truss bridges like this are being demolished at an alarming rate in the Region of Niagara, and thus bridges like this are becoming locally quite rare.
