Maine is a state that has not had a large population of historic bridges, nor does it have any 19th Century bridges on the current highway system. However among bridges it does (or did) have, there are nevertheless a number of unusual, rare, or otherwise significant historic bridges. However, preservation of historic bridges is nearly nonexistent in this state, and a visit to the state in 2012 by HistoricBridges.org to document the most significant bridges in the state might as well have been a signal for Maine to destroy every remaining historic bridge in the state since Maine has demolished historic bridges at an incredible rate starting in 2012. Unless things change, Maine will soon have very few bridges of historic value remaining.
