Trackside
Looking SW down the tracks towards the bridge. This railroad line was once one of four Chicago and Great Western mainlines that radiated from Oelwein, IA, which is NE of here. This particular line once ran all the way to Kansas City and hosted high speed passenger trains and long freights. Now it is just a humble branch line from Waterloo to Oelwein.

Around the curve and down the grade...
The former C&GW mainline still supports super-elevated curves, but a quick glance at the state of the track condition lets you know the days of fast trains on this line are long gone. Now it's just a humble branchline; the bridge is barely visible towards the bottom of the sag.
