Looking East
The bridge as viewed looking east towards Independence. At one time, a connecting track branched off right here and there were two bridges over the slough. A Rock Island rail line used to run N/S and cross the IC main just in the background where the trees are, and the connecting track allowed the two railroads to interchange. All of that is now long gone, as the RI line and the connecting track were removed in the 1970s.
