Bridge Documentation

Today abandoned, this graceful pin connected Parker offers an interesting contrast of bridge types and eras of bridges by its inclusion of a concrete through girder approach span installed at a later date. The 1880 date is an estimated date as noted in the National Register nomination. This date seems fairly early for a Parker truss, as such, if it is accurate, this would be a very early example of its kind. In 1917, a state standard concrete through girder was added to the bridge. At the other end of the bridge, the original stone abutments have been supplemented with an additional concrete abutment (which might date to the 1917 project) directly behind the truss bridge's stone abutments. The truss bearings remain on the stone abutments.

There used to be a very beautiful pin-connected Detroit Bridge and Iron Works railroad through truss next to this bridge, but in September 16, 2013 it collapsed in a flood and in 2014 it was replaced with 1936 plate girders salvaged from a railroad bridge in Bay City, Texas.
