Bridge Documentation

This is a small concrete arch bridge with railings that angle down at the ends of the bridge. Visually, this gives a rough sense of the railings following the shape of the arch, although the railing is formed from three straight segments rather than an actual curve. This railing design is what gives this bridge is unusual distinctive appearance that is unlike most arch bridges. The bridge's wingwall and abutment are separating and even the asphalt is pulling apart. The bridge is likely at risk for demolition and replacement as a result.

Information and Findings From Ohio's Historic Bridge Inventory

Setting/Context

The bridge carries a 2 lane road over a stream in a sparsely developed, rural setting.

Physical Description

The 1 span, 68'-long reinforced-concrete arch bridge has paneled concrete parapets that taper over the slightly flared wingwalls.

Summary of Significance

The arch bridge in 1925 has no unusual or distinctive features. It is an example of a common bridge type from the first half of the 20th century. Earlier, more complete and/or aesthetically distinguished examples better represent the significance of the technology. The not eligible recommendation of the prior inventory remains appropriate.
