Bridge Documentation

Concrete arch bridges are uncommon in Ontario, and so immediately this bridge stands out as noteworthy. However, this bridge has a number of exceptional aspects that give it significant heritage value. The bridge's span configuration is both unusual yet pleasing to the eye, with one large span over the creek, and a much smaller span at each end of the bridge providing an approach. Constructed in 1936, the bridge's use of Ontario's standard plan ornamental railing panels (common on bridges from the 1930s through the 1960s) is an early use of this prolific and attractive railing design. The concrete railing posts however are an uncommon design, being more elaborate than the average concrete posts for bridges displaying these railing panels. The end result is a bridge with not only heritage value, but considerable aesthetic qualities as well.
