This bridge is a later example of a riveted truss bridge in Ontario with a 1950 construction date. It has a graceful arch-like Parker truss design. The engineer listed on the bridge plaque is Arthur Sedgwick, which is presumably the same noteworthy engineer who served the predecessor to the Ministry of Transportation which was the Ontario Department of Highways. The bridge was named after Monsignor Joseph Hercules Touchette (1868-1954) who was a priest in nearby Casselman from 1893 to 1953. After a fire in 1897, he encouraged residents to stay and rebuild their homes rather than leave for someplace else.
