Some maps shown this railroad line as abandoned. An on-site inspection revealed tracks that are well-groomed but do indeed have rust on the tops rather than the usual shiny look in-use tracks have. However, the rust on the top looks bright red and recent, which seems suspicious and suggests that these tracks might not be totally abandoned. The bridge features five panels, design for a single set of tracks only, and sits on concrete abutments.
Either way, the bridge is a very impressive structure with some unusual design. Unusual designs include the portal bracing, use of an unusual "railroad-style" v-lacing on the built-up diagonal members, an interesting latticed bottom chord, and attractive knee bracing for the sway bracing. Overall, this is an especially intriguing and attractive railroad bridge, and it retains excellent historic integrity and appears to be structurally sound as well.
