Bridge Documentation

This dam, a National Historic Landmark, features highway access over it via original concrete arch spans on the dam and a 1959 high level deck plate structure over the associated locks.

This bridge also used to have a bascule girder span over the locks, which was the original highway crossing over the locks but was bypassed when the fixed high level plate girder spans over the locks were built in 1959. The bascule span was nevertheless retained for use by dam and lock workers after the high level bridge was built. However more recently this bascule span has been demolished. This span should have been left in place, even if abandoned in the raised position, especially considering the dam is a National Historic Landmark.
