It is a 3-tiered bridge, resting on two piers of iron and one of solid rock. Vertical stringers replaced the slanted stringers on the original steel cabled bridge foundation.

Second version of the bridge
The entire bridge became covered. The sides have a lattice in this pic because supposedly the darkness when they were covered made some mules hesitant to cross with the sound of the rushing creek below.
