The map shows that the bridge will be constructed on a new location, south of the existing structure and the approaches will be changed. Due to the project currently being in the preliminary phase, there are no pictures of the new bridge design available for public viewing online. Also, the date for construction of the new bridge is preliminary, therefore subject to change. I do hope that the information provided has been of some assistance to you. New Bridge Construction

Construction has started on the new bridge. So far all new construction is on the east side of the river, nothing in the river or on the west bank as of December 4th 2015.

Overview

The repairs to the damaged areas are very professional. The verticals, overhead sway bracing, guardrails, have been recreated and painted. This was not a patch job but a very thorough recreation of the original parts. Makes me even sadder that it is going to be blown to pieces and cut up in a years time.

View of East End Span

The east Warren span is different than the west Pratt span. The bridge members are a much lighter build. I noticed some reinforcement I-beam girders have been welded across the top of the trusses since my last visit. Can't help but wonder if this span is a reuse from the previous bridge.

Almost gone

Screen grab from a dive by video. The destruction crew would not let me stop for a still photo. This was 12-4-15. Construction foreman that shooed me away said it was going to meet with the torch on 12-7. Pearl Harbor Day, how ironic.

Relic

As many times as I have visited and photographed the current Arkadelphia Bridge I have never thought to look for remnants of the old bridge...until today. Here is the stub of one of the west bank piers from the original bridge. Depending on the river level the stub is probably submerged part of the time.

Another of the west bank Lally Columns or piers has come to light. This one is much taller than the other surviving pier pictured above . This one is also partialy buried in the river bank and is only visable from a wash on it's north side.

The wooden deck on this bridge is getting really bad. Add to that the center pony is roughly ten inches lower than the other two spans due to crumbling piers and it makes it a little scary to drive over.

I ran into a Clark Co. road worker at the bridge today. He said the county intends to leave the bridge as is because there was no money for removal in the budget. He did say the county would be happy to sell it to anyone who would foot the re-location fee.
