Overload Crashes Through Bridge Deck

The Petit Jean Country Headlight reported on January 28, 2009 that a lumber truck, weighing 40,000 pounds, crashed through the deck that was signed 3 tons. The lumber was unloaded by hand and a crane was used to lift the truck off the bridge. Damage evaluations were underway (as of this posting) and restoration options are being considered. (Photo by Tonya English, republished here with the kind permission of the Petit Jean Country Headlight.) For more about this incident, including follow-up discussions, see the Historic Bridges News.
