GDOT Project CSBRG-0007-00(044) / P.I. #0007044, proposed to replace the bridge, is in the early stages of development, as of July 2016. The project is currently undergoing the process of environmental review. Because this is a NR eligible bridge, alternatives to avoid demolition will be investigated, under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. If demolition cannot be avoided, mitigation measures will be undertaken. A similar bridge along SR 85 that crosses the railroad was replaced in 2013 and utilizes context-sensitive design.
