Railing
At the ends where the top chord gets very low a flat iron railing is fitted. All four exist, but each of them are bent up a bit. This is the best looking one.

Joint piece
Top view of the joint piece where round diagonals, X-shaped verticals, and round horizontal diagonal members all connect to the lower chord. These pieces appear to be made of cast iron and this assembly is used at every connection between the lower chord and the vertical and diagonal members.

Note the nut is not tight on the diagonal on the right. It shows the curved face of the washer and the matching curve on the joint piece which together with the slot for the round rod will allow for various diagonal angles.
