The High Bridge is the first Cantilever bridge built in North America. When it was built in 1877 it was also the highest bridge in the world. The bridge is 240' high from the Kentucky River.

Railroad tracks of High Bridge

On the Old bridge deck, looking east through the towers with station building in distance. The towers were never supposed to have been used, but in this shot it looks like they have been used as support for the new bridge approach. Notice the "American Bridge Co." stencil on a girder to the left and flanges for the mounting of portal bracing which will go in when the old bridge is removed. (see photos #15 & 16)
