Talbot Avenue Overpass

Status: Bridge removed for future preservation and construction of replacement July 2019
Bridge removed July 2019. Closed indefinitely April 27, 2017 after failing safety inspection: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/trafficandcommuting/historic-maryland-bridge-is-closed-after-failing-inspection/2017/05/02/90f6ba70-2f71-11e7-8674-437ddb6e813e_story.html The Maryland Transit Administration has agreed to save the steel girders from the Talbot Avenue bridge, a 100-year-old span in the Lyttonsville area of Silver Spring, when it's torn down to make way for the light-rail line, the county said. . . . The girders will be installed on a vacant state-owned parcel about two blocks from the bridge, near Talbot and Michigan avenues. They will form short walls on both sides of the Capital Crescent Trail to give runners and cyclists the feel of crossing a bridge.

Wide shot of the clearing the crews have done and the crane pad being put in. The original trestle spanned the entire fill area and was over 1,400' long. This was filled in, most likely, in the early 1900s. The new Purple Line bridge will be about half as high as the existing trestle, so much grading is left to be done.
