Steel mill ID

This is on the inside of of one of the angles used for the built-up upper chord. The text seems to be "C.R.M. CO."

End post

The end posts and upper chord are built up beams composed of two angles joined by small battens. The outer batten is unusual only in how small it is. The inner batten is formed into a very short U-channel and riveted to the sides. This construction in odd.

Lower joint

A star strut diagonal member is on the right. This is built up from two pieces of angle - but positioned to form an "X" shape rather than the more usual "U" shape. On the left both the lower chord upset eye-bars and the loop welded diagonal tension rods are visible. The square end of the floor beam is visible beyond the nut.

Over long pin

This bridge has bents under every joint, so the truss is not carrying much - or any - load. So the fact there is an over length pin is not a worry. Though I do wonder what it's doing here. Maybe it was originally from another bridge.

Pin nut

On pin-connected trusses, the pin is typically held in place with nuts. These nuts are special. They have a hollow space underneath. This allows the truss members to not rest on the pin threads. This photo is a rare opportunity to see the shape of the underside of one of these nuts because it is incorrectly installed and is on a pin too long for this joint.

Angle edge

The angle pieces used to build up the top chord have one edge that looks normal, and the other edge has a stepped appearance. This is one photo trying to show that edge. I was unable to tell if this stepped edge is an intentional feature or not. All the beams I looked at had these stepped edges to the inside

Battens and the angle edge

The unusual inner batten is partly visible. This is also another attempt to document the odd edge on the angle stock.

The diagonals pinned with the end post are tension rods with loop welded ends. The floor beam in attached to the pin with a u-bolt. The lower chord is composed of upset eye bars.

Star strut diagonal and railing

The diagonal is built up from two pieces of angle to create an "X" shaped member called a star strut. The railing is channel stock.
