The first panels lower chord was a fascinating piece as it wasn't an eyebar but was 2 flat pieces of iron with ribbon between. Many pin connected railroad bridges didn't have eyebars in the first panel, instead going with a bulkier member that could handle compression forces. It was interesting to see even on an ancient bridge like this they accounted for the possibility of the first panel not being completely subjected to tensile stress.

Detail of the pinned connection for the lower chord and hanger/floorbeam. Unfortunately the bridges were incredibly close to the water and had overgrown embankments, making a better shot of the underside impossible.
