This bridge is actually a unique variant of the Town Lattice. Whereas the true form uses planks fastened together, this variation is sometimes referred to as a 'notched' town lattice wherein the overlapping memebers interlock into each other, giving the strength needed for the very long span lengths

The caption says Brattleboro, Vermont. This was taken during the 2011 floods caused by Irene. Do not be deceived by this though, due to lack of geography on part of the press, the picture is not a pic of flooding in Brattleboro, VT, but is a pic of the Sugar River flooding in Claremont, NT although it says that the flooding is in VT.
