The jungle of hell known as underneath the bridge Part I
The photographer actually climbed down the steep cliffs in order to photograph underneath the bridge. Where the photos were taken, the area was loaded with overgrowth, garbage and broken glass- a royal mess. More on this in the column on this bridge in the Bridgehunter's Chronicles.

July 2015:
The Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society has reached an agreement with CSX Transportation for the purchase of a portion of the abandoned "Great Stone Viaduct" in Bellaire. The contract, which took about 18 months complete, covers the purchase of a 20-arch portion of the bridge and 5.5 acres of associated real estate for $83,000.
The arches intended to be acquired will stretch from the west side of Guernsey Street to the bridge abutment at Hamilton Street. The remainder of the structure, about 23 more arches, remains in use by the Wheeling & Lake Erie as part of its crossing of the Ohio River between Bellaire and Benwood, W.Va.
