The Silver Bridge Upon Completion
The Silver Bridge was completed in 1928 and collapsed on December 15, 1967, killing 46 people. Its replacement, the Silver Memorial Bridge, opened exactly two years later, on December 15, 1969. This view is from Point Pleasant, looking west to Ohio. The railroad truss, just to the north, still stands.

Debris
This debris was on the Ohio side of the crossing. The bridge collapsed at approximately 4:50 PM on December 15, 1967, the first major bridge collapse since the Tacoma Narrows Bridge ("Gallopin' Gertie") in 1940. As a result of the collapse, the NBIS (National Bridge Inspection Standard) program began in 1968.

Painting of Silver Bridge on floodwall
Artists have been painting a section of the floodwall in Point Pleasant WV where the old Silver Bridge was located, to make it look like the bridge is still there, complete with a car driving across it onto 6th Street. This is 1/2 block from the memorial plaque.
