Carries US 101 over Alsea Bay
Design: arch/through/steel
Design Details: The 1991 version of the Alsea Bay Bridge was designed with many unique characteristics that both created a sleek modern bridge and reminded the public of the lost tied arch bridge that once stood on the site.
The most important aspects of the new design included the main steel through arch and the included “Y” piers that gave the bridge a unique appearance yet still gave a since of bridge continuity throughout Oregon’s Pacific Coast Highway.

Carries Otter Crest Loop Road over Rocky Creek
Design: arch/deck/open
Design Details: The Ben Jones Bridge, constructed on the Oregon Coast Highway in 1927, is one of the most beautifully sited bridges in the state. The bridge spans a small gorge in a picturesque section of the Oregon Coast. It is now bypassed and provides only local service along Otter Crest Loop Road. This structure was originally call the Rocky Creek Bridge but was named for the “Father of the Coast Highway”, Ben Jones. This span is 360 feet long with a 160 foot long reinforced concrete rib deck main arch. The structure has ten reinforced deck girder approach spans, five on either side of the main span. The open spandrel arch and approach columns have semi-circular fascia curtain wall which are typical of Conde B. McCullough designed bridges.

The Yaquina Bay bridge is supposed to be one of the most recognizable bridges along highway 101 along the Oregon coast. I didn't realize how long and tall the bridge actually was until we were crossing it.
