Carries Abandoned OR-82 Alignment over Grande Ronde River and Idaho Northern and Pacific Railroad
Design: truss/deck/warren
Design Details: The Rhinehart Bridge is an abandoned steel Warren deck truss bridge with reinforced concrete deck girder approach spans over the Grand Ronde River. The bridge was built in 1922 and designed under the guidance of State Bridge Engineer Conde B. McCullough. The bridge features many of the standard details found on bridge built in the 1920’s and 1930’s, including architectural railing and arched sidewalk brackets.
The main span of the Rhinehart Bridge is a 140-foot steel nine panel Warren deck truss. The west approach crosses over the railroad via three heavily skewed 40-foot reinforced concrete deck girders spans, while the small eastern approach crosses two approximately 30-foot deck girder spans. The bridge also has a some what substantial 5% upward grade when traveling from east to west.
