4-span Baltimore (Pratt) truss bridges across the French Broad River

This crossing is a half-mile west and downriver of the concrete deck plate girder Bridge #4, and is necessary because of an unusual horseshoe bend in the river. These bridges were numbered by the railroad company, by the number of crossings of the French Broad River on the Norfolk Southern Railroad between Asheville, North Carolina and Knoxville, Tennessee.

A Norfolk-Southern train westbound for Knoxville, Tennessee. This deck plate girder bridge replaced a through-truss bridge beside it that was built around 1916.
