Design Details: A 200-foot iron-modified Pratt deck truss over the river channel, flanked on either side by a 730-foot trestle of 4 Warren deck trusses, with a total length of 930 feet. In 1962-1963 when a new bridge bypassed this bridge and the nearby Robbins Tunnel, the 4 Warren decks were dismantled, leaving only the Pratt deck truss in these pictures in place, spanning the New River channel.

Design Details: Tunnel bored though sandstone/limestone/shale/slate/clay mixture. Lined with brick masonry and stacked limestone. Straight bore, however other end is not visible from south or north due to the crest of a sizeable grade in the center of the bore.

Overview: Abandoned tunnel on Abandoned Railroad
History: Bored in 1877, lined and finished in 1879. Cincinnati construction crews and Chattanooga construction crews met with the building of the tracks in the center of this tunnel.

There's a lot of stuff and garbage dumped into the cut approaching the tunnel. Its sort of ironic that a found this little caboose dumped right in front of the portal. Just imagine all the cabooses that once rolled through that big black hole back there. Strangely humbling. (Yes, I took it home with me LOL)

Here you can see how tore up the south portal is from the affects of weather. It has pretty much become a stream now, and also a place people seem to enjoy storing trash.

History: Bored in solid limestone in 1877. Taken out of service sometime in the 1930's. Tunnel floor was lowered and the creek re-routed through it to prevent the rail re-alignment from having to have two new bridges.
