Undergoing construction as of December 2011. Project will replace bridge and "the new bridge will be wider, longer and a great deal more attractive than today's structure," according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Also, VDOT says, "A light well will separate westbound and eastbound lanes, and an acceleration/deceleration lane will be added westbound between ramps to assist weaving." Bridge replacement is also being done to accommodate the widening of Columbia Pike and a future streetcar along Columbia Pike.
