Arch Detail

Note the iron rings. These held railing uprights before the bridge was "modernized." Similar rings are still in use on the Weeks Road Bridge (located about 1-1/2 miles from here) and are extant (although unused) on the Killsnake Road Bridge (located about 11 miles from here.) All three bridges appear to have been constructed by the same builder.

The neo-classical design of the balustrades (that means, "urn") were once quite common on bridges in Wisconsin. The troublesome urns are seldom reproduced today and bridges like this one are disappearing.
