Algoma is an old commercial fishing village on Lake Michigan. The green building is a relic from the commercial fishing days, used until recently as the LaFond Fishhouse.

Design Details: Wooden trestles extend from earthen causeways to the riveted steel girder swing span, The swing mechanism is still intact on a deteriorating wooden crib; the bridge is currently supported by recent steel piers on each side of the wooden center pier.

Causeway to the bridge
The river meanders through marshes in a wide, steep-sided valley. There is a long earthen causeway from each side leading to the bridge.
