Rhinelander has a rich rail history, in fact, the namesake of the city was the president of the railroad that first came to Pelican Rapids (its original name) and the grateful citizens renamed the city in honor of Frederic Rhinelander. It is said he never came to the town that bears his name. At one time, three railroads served the city, the Chicago & Northwestern, Thunder Lake Logging Railroad and the Soo Line, the builder of this bridge. The city is now served only by the Canadian National Railroad.

Some bridges are rumored to have a troll. This one appears to have a witch, you can see her broom is parked above the tunnel.
