A model railroad club used this industrial area in Menasha as the prototype for their layout. They took a few liberties to make the model work, for example, in the the real world, this is the south portal of the Tayco Street Bridge and the bollards are on the north shore of the canal. Overall, this is a spectacular model of this congested industrial area! One more thing - this model is located in Great Britain!

This is why the new bridge was built. The span was raised when the concrete counterweight on the south span failed, dropping the span into the river and narrowly missing an excursion boat that was passing through.

Welcome Arch
The Fox Cities Trestle is a Rails-to-Trail conversion of a causeway/trestle rail bridge, now a recreational trail bridge. It opened August 27, 2005 and won the 2007 AASHTO Legacy Award. The deck is composite planking and the bridge is lighted. 1,600 feet in length, it crosses Little Lake Butte des Morts from the City of Menasha on the east portal to the Town of Menasha on the west portal. Little Lake Butte des Morts is the flowage from damming the Fox River. The trestle is the western link of the bridge, the eastern link is a boardwalk that parallels the original causeway that is still carries rails. There is an S curve in the middle of the span that transitions from the bridge to the trestle portion, this welcome arch is at the west entrance to the trestle portion of the span.

This lock is at the west end of the Fox River Navigation Channel in the City of Menasha, allowing river traffic to move between Little Lake Butte des Morts and Lake Winnebago.
