This bridge is a 1970 railroad truss bridge that includes a vertical lift span. The bridge was converted into a pedestrian bridge in 2008. To avoid having to operate the lift span for boats, some changes were made when the bridge was converted to a pedestrian bridge. For this bridge, the left span was fixed in the raised position, and stairways and elevators allow pedestrians to reach the deck of the lift span to proceed across.
This bridge is a late example of a truss bridge and of a lift bridge, but it is a good example of bridge design and construction from this period. Typical of the period, fasteners installed in the shop during fabrication of built-up beams were rivets, while only bolts were used during field assembly.
At night, dynamic colored lighting can be seen on this bridge.
Bridge lengths given are approximate.
