This bridge has the general appearance of a steel arch bridge, but details indicate that the bridge appears to be configured as a truss bridge with a deck suspended by hangers from the truss. This bridge was originally built as a footbridge, and also to carry two water lines and one gas line. In 1945 during the war, the bridge was demolished, but some of the steel truss was found to be salvageable. As such, in 1947, the bridge was rebuilt using the materials laying in the canal. In 1974-5 some extensions were added to carry the walkway over roadways and to the subway station. In 1995-1997 the bridge received a comprehensive rehabilitation.
