This is a steel footbridge that was built in 1903 and has some attractive ornamentation at the ends of each span. It was built as a toll bridge originally, and the toll booth remains in place at the southwest corner of the bridge. A private association called Mozartstegverein funded and operated the toll bridge initially. The bridge became a public bridge, and tolls ceased to be collected in 1921. Reportedly the bridge was built in response to efforts by Georg Krimml, who ran a cafe called Café Corso and wanted more business.
A plaque on the bridge lists credits two names with construction of the bridge: Ignaz Gridl and E. Gaertner. Ignaz Gridl is more well known and likely was the steel contractor for this bridge, see this wikipedia article. E. Gaertner appears to have been involved with substructure construction and may have built the piers of this bridge. This name is mentioned briefly in this historical text.
This bridge was rehabilitated in 1992-3 and 2011.
