This bridge was the replacement for the 1913 suspension bridge which remains preserved for pedestrian use next to this bridge. The two bridges make a comparison in terms of both age and design. Indeed the interpretive signage for the suspension bridge discusses this arch bridge as a comparison. Photos of this sign are included in the photo gallery. The north abutment has an unusual cantilevered corner that allows a road to pass under the bridge without the abutment sticking into the roadway.
While not an early example of a steel arch bridge, this arch bridge is today old enough to have some heritage value. The structure type is uncommon and this example retains good historic integrity.
