This bridge is the largest and most complex of three bridges that together carry a railway over the river using tiny islands in the river. The estimated length of this bridge is 425 feet (129.5 meters), but the combined length of all three bridges and the distance traveled over the islands, in other words from shore to shore of the river, is estimated to be 1165 feet (355.1 meters). The bridge documented here is the largest, westernmost bridge. From west to east the bridge is composed of one deck plate girder span, a through truss span, and two through plate girder spans. The other two bridges that are part of this crossing include a "middle bridge" that is to through plate girder spans, and finally an eastern bridge composed of three through plate girder spans. The setting of the bridge is magnificent with beautiful mountains in the background, and the historic bridge easily viewed from the parallel highway bridge.
