Although the concrete deck of this abandoned bridge suggests that it previously served as the former highway alignment, this bridge was a railway bridge prior to service as a vehicular bridge. The main span of this bridge is a metal deck truss that is traditionally composed for a riveted railway truss. The name of the bridge as a stone railway bridge refers to the approach spans of the bridge which are stone arches. The arches are uniquely composed, since they not only form an arch span, but they transition into a tall stone pier that also supports the main truss span.
