This bridge is a rare example of a rainbow arch bridge. With the distinctive through arch that defines the rainbow arch type, this is a very beautiful bridge. With the arches above the roadway, both people who drive over the bridge and those who use the non-motorized pathway below both get to enjoy the graceful beauty of the arches. The bridge also retains attractive balustrade railings. The path the bridge today crosses over was originally a railroad line. Concrete slab approach spans bring the roadway up to the level that was needed to provide sufficient bridge clearance over this railroad line. Among rainbow arch bridges, this bridge is very unusual because the arch span is quite short, but the arches are surprisingly deep (tall) and this gives the bridge a unique appearance. The bridge today retains excellent historic integrity. As of 2013, the bridge is slated for rehabilitation and seismic retrofit, so it appears that a preservation commitment exists.
The bridge was designed in-house by town engineer John C. Oglesby.
