This bridge is a very long bridge with a variety of span types. It is unusual because its "main span" which most people would think of as the vertical lift span, is not the longest span on the bridge. The lift span is 328 feet. The bridge includes fixed through truss spans of 526 feet.
From south to north, the bridge is configured as follows: three deck plate girder spans supposed by tower style steel bents, one Warren deck truss span supported by concrete piers, one polygonal Warren through truss span supported by concrete piers, one vertical lift span supported by concrete piers, six polygonal Warren through truss span supported by concrete piers, one Warren deck truss span supported by concrete piers, and three deck plate girder spans supposed by tower style steel bents. Abutments are concrete.
The vertical lift span has a span drive system and a relatively short lift span that only lifts about as high as the height of the lift truss itself. The towers of the lift span do not stand independently and are instead integrated into the adjacent through truss spans.
