A number of arch bridges were built in the city of Flint in the late 1910s and early 1920s, and this is one of those bridges. Some of the other bridges are much larger than this one, and are on MDOT's website. Some, like Chevrolet Avenue, are located closer to the downtown area, in an ugly industrial area and are not as scenic. In that area the rivers flow in giant concrete trenches. Despite the poor condition of the guardrails on this Old Cambridge Avenue Bridge, this bridge remains an attractive structure in a setting more scenic than some of Flint's other bridges.
This Cambridge Avenue bridge sits tucked in the trees going in a park setting now. Cambridge Avenue likely got shut down when the nearby I-69 was built, although there is little trace of the old road left in the area other than the bridge. This bridge was built in 1924, according to the Michigan historic bridge inventory. The bridge appears to have once had a plaque, but it has been removed. The guardrails on the bridge are original, but many of the balustrades are missing.
