Bridge Documentation

This bridge no longer exists!

This bridge is a good representative example of a single-span concrete bowstring, also known as a rainbow arch, in Ontario, and it is the only such structure in the Region of Chatham-Kent. The structure of the arch appears to be in good shape, although the railings are spalling quite a bit. The bridge carries heavy traffic, including many trucks as it serves CR-21, which was formerly KH-21 prior to the provincial downloading. Despite the poor condition of the railings, the railings are original, and because of this the bridge represents the original design better than restored bridges like the Warwick Bridge, which had its railings replaced. That said, it would be better to see the Prangley Drain Bridge repaired in a manner similar to the Warwick Bridge rather than demolishing and replacing the bridge with a nondescript modern bridge that would offer no heritage value.
