This bridge is one of the most important bridges in the state, since it is the longest lenticular span in Connecticut (which was the Berlin Iron Bridge Company's home) this bridge also retains excellent historic integrity with the one major exception being the loss of original railings. The bridge also features very ornate and detailed finials, along with the typical fancy builder plaque and portal decoration.
The bridge has been bypassed and abandoned next to its replacement. The bridge appears to retain decent structural integrity. If any preservation work is planned for the bridge it is important that the work not diminish the high level of historic integrity that this bridge exhibits.
