Bridge Documentation

This large bridge is noted for its arched, riveted girders which feature a pin and hanger cantilever design.

Technically there are two bridges at this location due to an island being in the middle of the river. The western bridge is shorter in both overall length and span lengths, however it branches out into ramps and forms an interchange complex, with the interchange spans sharing the same arched deck plate girder design.

This page and the dimensions given on this page refer only to the main bridge over the main river channel, the western bridge and interchange were not documented as part of this page. The overall length of the bridge complex including both bridges and interchange is difficult to calculate given the different ramps, but is well over 3,000 feet.

J. Burdnell was the resident engineer onsite during construction.
