This bridge consists of a series of concrete approach spans which lead to a very small deck plate girder bascule span. It is estimated that the bascule span only provides an approximately 42 foot wide opening for boats. The small bascule bridge is a fairly simple example of the Scherzer type rolling lift bascule bridge. Due to its small size the counterweight and associated frame is not very large. The bridge is next to the few surviving spans of a 1941 highway bridge that was otherwise demolished and replaced with a fixed high level bridge. This is the easiest place to view the bridge, but the bridge tender house blocks the view of the leaf from this location.
