This bridge was built by the Cotton States Bridge Company, and this may be the only surviving bridge documented as having been built by this little-known bridge builder. The composition of the bridge's through truss spans is traditional. This is one of the few pin-connected truss bridges in Georgia that is preserved. Most surviving pin-connected truss bridges are abandoned. The bridge was bypassed by a new bridge immediately south of the truss bridge in 1974, with the historic bridge left in place for pedestrian use. The historic bridge was rehabilitated including new paint in 2010.
