This unique bridge is one of the most popular destinations for tourists wishing to get photos of Neuschwanstein Castle, because this footbridge offers one of the best views of the castle. In fact, this bridge often supports a considerable live load of pedestrians as people form a dense crowd on the bridge in an attempt to get their photos. However, the bridge itself is also a highly significant historic structure. It was designed by Heinrich Gottfried Gerber, a noteworthy engineer who only a year after designing this bridge, went on to design the first modern cantilever truss bridge in the world. The bridge retains good historic integrity including original railing, largely unaltered arches, and intact builder and engineer plaques. The bridge is well-maintained also.
