This bridge is an unusual structure because it is essentially configured as two bridges that structurally end at the northern tip of Hurds Island at a shared abutment. However on the deck, a continuous railing system as well as the shared abutment visually create the appearance of a single bridge. At this abutment, on the south side, there is also a ramp leading up from Hurds Island Park that intersects with the bridge, another unusual detail. The bridge has been extensively rehabilitated. It appears that the arch rings and substructure are the only original materials on the bridge, but the remaining bridge appears to in general replicate the original design. The bridge was rehabilitated in 1974 and again in 2002.
